TikTok Grants The Community Control to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a updated setting that permits them to cut down on the quantity of AI-made content appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the company announced that it presently contains more than 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

The update is being tested over the coming weeks before a widespread release. This development aligns with a surge in AI-generated material, fueled by emerging AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Recent reports that approximately a tenth of the fastest-growing video streams on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A large amount of this material is considered low-quality AI content, a phrase for substandard, bulk-generated content that is often nonsensical or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content made with AI tools, ranging from digital art to informative clips, and we want to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own preferences,” said a spokesperson.

Scale of AI Content

TikTok shared that there are now over a billion videos on its network labeled as made with AI. In total, in excess of 100 m media items are submitted to the platform daily, making AI content a minor percentage of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be able to decrease or raise the volume of artificial media they see by accessing the “manage topic” setting in the platform and selecting AI-made media. Additional categories that currently be modified under the setting cover current affairs, style, beauty, and choreography.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s rules oblige content makers to label lifelike AI-made content, and it bans harmful AI impersonations of celebrities or crisis events. Any authentic-looking artificial content that is unmarked can be taken down under its terms of service.

Furthermore, the platform will now apply an AI-generated tag to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for identifying AI-generated material. This action is aimed to stop users from trying to bypass the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is also launching a $2 million educational fund for professionals and institutions to create learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will benefit non-profit groups dedicated to educating programming and robotics.

Platform Protection

TikTok has justified its moderation strategy, following discussion over plans to cut jobs for a large number of review team members in Britain. It is set to eliminate 439 jobs in its user protection team in its British office, with labor groups and online safety experts voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive clarified that staff-based oversight would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can safeguard staff by eliminating the most distressing content prior to it is viewed by people. The platform announced a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content seen by content reviewers over the previous year due to the use of its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to dangerous material as swiftly, which is where a significant AI assistance is proving valuable process content quickly.”
